week 12

        — ONE PERSON, ONE IDEA

Try going one week without a shower, without washing your hands or face, without brushing your teeth.  What would you feel like? Nelson Mandela once said: Helping the poor is not an act of charity. It is an act of justice. Ending poverty is a human right, the right to dignity.
A woman in San Francisco named Doniece Sandoval saw too many people in her city who had no way to wash and get clean. It is horrible being dirty. No one wants to look at you, come near you, or help you.
     Then she had an idea.
The city of San Francisco gave her an old school bus they didn’t want any more. She and friends put 2 showers, along with sinks and toilets, in the bus. Now they drive the bus to the poorest parts of San Francisco and let people take a shower for free.

  1. I love the way Lava Mae approached the dilemma of homelessness in her city. Instead of trying to solve a very complex problem with a sweeping statement such as, "Let's get rid of homelessness in San Francisco." she said, "What can I do to give dignity back to those who have lost it?" She is a shinning example of the effectiveness of someone who asks the deeper questions. I think when we ask more thoughtful questions we give ourselves room to see the answers.
Anyone can become overwhelmed by the problems in the world today, but reading Mrs. Jeannie's reports of what all of you are doing I am inspired. Thank you for your beautiful hearts. I love the Happinator project! But really, all of your projects are truly wonderful.
Hope you have a good week. And Stay Clean! ;)

  2. The idea of "Showers on Wheels" is creative and I would love to see this idea branch out to other cities and countries in need. I am inspired by Ms. Sandoval for spending her time and money for this project, which all started to help others. She didn't start this project for attention, money, or other selfish intentions. She started this project for the well-being of others and I respect her for that.

  3. It is amazed to see how they put the shower in the bus, and it looks very neat and clean. I think it is good to come up some good ideas for homeless people, because even a small thing that we do can mean a lot to them. I like to watch how Ms. Sandoval worked on her project, and it is very inspired.

  4. The project is really creative and extremely effective. I love the idea of showers and how they help other people. It is really happy and inspiring to see people like Ms Sandoval. Projects and works like this, take every excuse from us about not being able to help people in need.
